Obituary for Carol Mae Ball (Wright)

Carol Mae Ball (Wright) daughter of Ralph and Fannie (Bo) Wright, was born on August 24, 1929, in Skidmore, Missouri and passed away on January 27, 2023 at the Tiffany Health Care facility in Mound City, Missouri.

Carol Mae spent her younger years on a farm in the Burr Oak Community, but spent much of her life on a farm East of Fairfax where she attended the Spring Valley Country School and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1947.

On December 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to Richard Edward Ball of Fairfax where they started a long life together doing what they loved, farming. Carol loved working by her husband’s side on the farm and worked as hard if not harder than Ed! To this marriage four children were born and raised, Betty Sue, Ralph Edward, John Eben and James Richard. From these children came 12 grandchildren who she loved with her whole heart!

Carol Mae raised a very large garden, orchard and always had a strawberry patch. Where she canned and froze the bountiful harvest that fed her family all year long. She unknowingly passed that ability to raise a garden onto her children. Carol Mae also had a passion for flowers especially roses, and not only had them in her garden but all over the homestead.

Carol Mae was a member of the Fairfax Methodist Church where she sat on many committees, was active in the Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and made sure her children were raised in the church.

She loved and supported her community and neighbors as she was a charter member of the 49ers Hobby Club, a leader in the Wolverine 4-H Club, a member and officer of the John Richards Legion Auxiliary, Community Hospital Auxiliary and Auxiliary Past Presidents.

Carol Mae taught at a country school and will be remembered for her talents in cooking and baking. She was known for her angel food cake, rolls, popcorn balls, noodles, pies and really just about anything she made! After her children were raised, she worked part time as a substitute cook for the Fairfax R-3 School.

Carol was a super supporter of all the activities her children participated in like sports, music, plays, FFA and FHA. Not only school activities but also 4-H activities like Share the Fun, 4-H Achievement Day, and showing livestock.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Bo, her husband Ed, two brothers, Ernie and James and an infant sister.
