Obituary for Phillip Edward Bowness

Phillip E. Bowness, age 89, Mound City, Missouri passed away Friday, November 18, 2022,, at Tiffany Heights Care Center in Mound City.

Phil Edward Bowness was born August 15, 1933, in Atchison County, in rural Tarkio, Missouri. He was the son of the late James W. and Leda (Fries) Bowness.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Oswald’s Episcopal Church near rural Skidmore, Missouri.

Phil graduated from Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri in the class of 1951. He also was a 1955 graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science.

A veteran Phil was a Specialist 3rd Class in United States Army. He was inducted in 1956 at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and was discharged in 1958.

On November 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joan (Burke) Bowness in Fairfax, Missouri. To this union three children were born, James, Kevin and Christina.

Phil was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mound City and the Masonic Lodge, Oregon, Missouri.

Phil was a lifelong farmer raising both livestock and row crops. He enjoyed visiting with his family and grandkids, his army friends at reunions and going fishing in Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joan (June 28, 2021), parents, two brothers, Joe Bowness, and an infant brother and sister.

His survivors include two sons, James (Angie) Bowness, Kevin Bowness, one daughter Christina (Kevin) Webster, all of Mound City, seven grandchildren, Jackson and Kathryn Bowness, Brian (Amanda), Laura and Daniel (Tiffany) Bowness, Joshua (Heidi) Webster, Jamie (Michael) Gard, 12 great grandchildren, Kiowa, Hawkins, Charlie, MacKensi, Avery, Dakota, Crosby, Corby, Kiptyn, Mila, Maddox and Marek, one sister-in-law Dorilee Bowness, Mound City, and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Farewell services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, November 22 at the United Methodist Church, Mound City, where the family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the services.
Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials: United Methodist Church or New Liberty Cemetery, both of Mound City.
